Life in the UK Test centres
GOV.UK states there are over 30 test centres across the UK, and you choose yours when you book (checked 2026-08-23). You cannot turn up at a centre without a booking, and you must book at least 3 days ahead.

Are some centres harder than others?

What should you check before booking a centre?
- How long the journey takes at the time of day of your slot, not off-peak.
- Whether there is parking, and what it costs, if you are driving.
- That you can get there comfortably early — see arriving late.
- Any access needs, raised at booking rather than on the day.
What happens when you arrive?
Your ID is checked against your booking and your photo is taken, then you sit at a computer for 24 questions in 45 minutes. Family members cannot come in with you. See what to bring.
