How to book the Life in the UK Test
You book online through GOV.UK. It costs £50 and must be booked at least 3 days in advance. You need an email address, a debit or credit card, and an accepted form of ID (checked 2026-08-23).

Which ID is accepted?
The ID you book with is the ID you must bring on the day, so choose one you will still have and that has not expired.
- A valid passport
- A valid ID card from the EU, Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway
- A valid travel document with a photo (an emergency travel document is not accepted)
- A biometric residence permit (BRP) or biometric residence card (BRC)
- An eVisa — you use a share code rather than a physical document

How far ahead should you book?
3 days is the minimum, not a recommendation. Booking further ahead gives you a wider choice of dates and centres, and leaves room to move the date if you are not scoring well on practice tests.
How many times can you book it?
GOV.UK states: “You can rebook the test as many times as you need. You'll have to pay each time.” GOV.UK does not publish a waiting period between attempts. It states only that you can rebook as many times as you need, paying each time.
